Shopify is the commerce platform behind millions of online shops. One subscription gives a business a hosted online store, a checkout, payments, inventory, shipping tools, marketing and analytics, and the means to sell in person, on social and marketplace channels and — newest of all — inside AI chat assistants. By Shopify's own count, merchants on the platform have made more than $1.1 trillion in sales, and an entrepreneur makes their first sale on Shopify every 26 seconds.

For a UK business the appeal is simple: nothing to host, nothing to patch, and a store that can be live the same day. Shopify's UK site prices everything in pounds, and card rates for Shopify Payments are printed in pence on the pricing page.

There is no Shopify promo code to type. The new-merchant offer is built into sign-up, and the link above opens Shopify's UK free-trial page. On 23 September 2026 Shopify's UK pricing page stated it in one line — try 3 days free, then £1/month for 3 months — and its pricing FAQ adds the detail: the 3-day trial needs no credit card, and after the trial most plans start at £1 a month for the first 3 months, then switch to standard monthly pricing.

Basic is the plan the offer is built around and the one most new UK stores should start on. Shopify's FAQ says "most plans" carry the £1 price; the plan screen at sign-up shows which ones do on the day.

Every plan includes unlimited products, the full online store, Shopify's checkout, selling on social channels, marketplaces and AI chats, more than 200 reports, abandoned-checkout recovery, discount codes and gift cards, and 24/7 support. Advanced adds live third-party shipping rates and regional storefronts; Plus adds a fully customisable checkout, up to 200 POS Pro locations and priority phone support.

Two add-ons sit alongside the plans. POS Pro, for physical shops, is £69 a month per location and brings staff roles, in-store inventory management and in-store pickup. The Agentic plan, at £0 a month, lists products in Shopify's Catalog for selling inside AI channels, and charges only when a sale is made, at card rates from 2% + 25p.

Which plan to choose

• Starting out, or testing a product. Basic. It has everything needed to launch and take payments, and the £1 months cover the period in which most new stores are still finding their first customers.
• A small team. Grow adds up to five staff accounts and lowers the card rate to 1.7% + 25p. At around £10,000 a month in card sales, the 0.3-point saving covers much of the gap to Basic.
• Selling internationally. Advanced adds live carrier shipping rates and region-specific storefronts, with card rates from 1.5% + 25p.
• High volume or complex operations. Plus, from £1,800 a month, with unlimited staff and B2B catalogues.

Paying yearly takes roughly a quarter off: Basic drops from £25 to £19 a month, Grow from £65 to £49.

What counts as qualifying

The offer is for new Shopify merchants. The route:

• Open the link and enter your email on Shopify's UK free-trial page.
• Use the 3-day trial to build the store — no credit card needed. Pick a theme or describe the shop to Shopify's AI website builder, add products and connect a domain.
• Choose a plan before the trial ends. The £1 price covers the first 3 months on most plans.
• Standard pricing starts in month 4, on monthly billing, unless you switch to yearly billing.

Shopify's FAQ confirms there are no setup fees and that you can cancel at any time.

Using the £1 months well: a launch plan

Three months at £1 is long enough to launch properly and see real sales data before the standard price begins. A sensible order of work for a UK store:

1. Days 1–3, the free trial. Pick a theme or have Shopify's AI website builder draft the store from a prompt. Add your first products with photos, prices in pounds and stock levels. Nothing is charged and no card is needed yet.
2. Before the trial ends, choose Basic. It unlocks the £1 price and everything needed to trade. Connect Shopify Payments so card payments run at 2% + 25p with no extra transaction fee.
3. Week 1, the essentials. Connect a domain — your own or one bought through Shopify — set shipping zones and rates, and switch on Shopify's automated tax calculation. VAT-registered businesses can use the built-in VAT validation, exemptions and invoicing.
4. Weeks 2–4, first customers. Turn on abandoned-checkout recovery, create a first-order discount code for your own shoppers, and connect the social and marketplace channels your customers already use. Shopify includes email campaigns and customer segments, so a launch email costs nothing extra.
5. Months 2–3, learn and adjust. Shopify's 200-plus reports show which products and channels sell. Ask Sidekick to build a report or rewrite product descriptions. By the end of month three you know whether Basic is enough, whether the lower card rate on Grow would pay for itself, and whether yearly billing at £19 a month makes sense.

The point of the offer is exactly this runway: a full trading quarter for £3, with every tool in place from day one.

Credits: 1% back on sales

Every Shopify plan now carries a sales-based credit: Shopify's pricing page lists 1% back on all sales, up to £3,500 in credits on Basic, £5,500 on Grow, £7,000 on Advanced and £10,000 on Plus. For a growing store, that credit is a further reason to keep sales on Shopify's own checkout.

Selling in person

Shopify is not only for websites. Every plan includes casual in-person sales — pop-ups, markets, events — from a phone or a card reader, sharing the same stock and customer records as the online store. Shops with a permanent counter can add POS Pro at £69 a month per location for staff roles and permissions, in-store inventory management and in-store pickup. A market-stall trader and an online seller can run on the same Basic plan.

Fees beyond the subscription

A Shopify store's running cost is the plan plus payment processing. With Shopify Payments, card payments cost the plan's card rate — 2% + 25p on Basic online — and there is no extra transaction fee. Using a third-party payment provider instead adds a transaction fee that depends on the plan, as Shopify's FAQ notes. Some local payment methods and local-currency pricing require Shopify Payments.

Marketplace syncing is free for the first 50 synced marketplace orders a month; beyond that Shopify charges 1% up to US$99 a month. Apps from the Shopify App Store are priced by their developers, and many stores need none at the start.

The tools a new UK store gets

• Checkout. Shopify says its checkout converts 15% better on average than other platforms.
• Sidekick. A built-in AI assistant that can write product copy, build reports and set up discounts, with millions of tokens included on every plan.
• Selling everywhere. One product catalogue feeds the website, social shops, marketplaces, AI chat channels and in-person sales from a phone or card reader.
• Marketing. Email campaigns, customer segments, automations, discount codes and gift cards are built in.
• Tax. Automated tax calculation, liability tracking and VAT validation, exemptions and invoicing are included on every plan.

Shopify next to Squarespace and Wix

All three let a UK business build a website and sell online without a developer. The difference is how far the selling tools go.

Squarespace and Wix figures are from their UK pricing pages, read 23 September 2026. Shopify is the platform built for selling first, with the deepest commerce tooling of the three; Squarespace suits portfolio and content sites that sell a little; Wix suits general-purpose sites. For a business whose website exists to sell, Shopify is the natural choice — and the £1 months make it the cheapest of the three to start on.

Is there a Shopify promo code or discount code?

This is the question most people type, and the straight answer is: Shopify does not use promo codes for new merchants. The discount is the offer itself — 3 days free, then £1 a month for 3 months — applied automatically at sign-up. Any "Shopify coupon code" on an aggregator is either a label on a link to the same free trial or a code for something else entirely.
