Read that sentence carefully, because the two sides are not the same thing:

The joiner's side is the better side of this deal, and most referral pages never say so. A discount cannot rot in an account you forget about; credit can.
How the £2.50 is applied
The invite rides in the link. Open Airalo through it and the referral attaches to the new account, so the reduction appears on your first order without you typing anything. If it has not attached — you created the account separately, say — Airalo exposes an "Apply Code/Use Airmoney" field at checkout where a code can be entered manually on that first purchase.

Airmoney: the part most pages get wrong
Even though your side of this invite is a discount, it is worth understanding Airmoney, because it is what every subsequent Airalo reward is paid in and its rules are unusually strict:
- It is priced in dollars. Airalo's help centre: "Airmoney is marked to the United States dollar (USD)." A £2.50 balance is a USD balance wearing a pound sign, and it converts at prevailing third-party rates if you switch display currency.
- It expires — conditionally. "From February 1, 2025, your Airmoney can expire." Expiry is not fixed in stone: "Each time you make a purchase, the expiration date will reset by one year." An account in regular use never loses it; a dormant one does.
- Small balances are stranded. "If your Airmoney balance is below $1.00 USD, Airmoney can't be applied during checkout." Airalo does not round up.
- It cannot pay renewals. "Airmoney currently can't be used to pay for renewals — you'll need a saved payment method to use this feature."
- It is not money. The referral terms describe the reward credit as non-transferable, non-negotiable and non-encashable.
Will your phone work?
Two conditions, both of which must be true:
- eSIM-capable hardware — iPhone XS/XR and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z series, and a growing list of mid-range Androids.
- Carrier-unlocked — a phone still locked to a UK network will refuse an eSIM profile even if the hardware supports one. This is the condition people miss, because the phone is theirs and they assume it is unlocked.
The 30-second check: on iOS open Settings → General → About and look for an EID number. On Android, Settings → About phone → status. No EID, no eSIM, and the £2.50 is no use to you.
What this invite does not do
Plainly, so you can decide before you spend:
- It does not stack. The terms say the credit "cannot be combined with a discount or used alongside any other promotion", and Airalo's FAQ warns you "may not receive a referral discount if you've used other Airalo promotions". One discount per order.
- It does not cover calls or texts. Most Airalo packages are data-only. Your UK SIM handles calls; app-based calling handles the rest.
- It does not pause. Most packages start counting down on first connection to a network, not at purchase. Install the profile before you fly, leave the line switched off, and turn it on when you land.

If you are buying in pounds you will see £2.50 come off the order. Pages quoting only "$3 credit" are reading the US store, which is why the number you see at checkout may not match them.
